    A Domain Specific Language Based Approach for Generating Deadlock-Free Parallel Load Scheduling Protocols for Distributed Systems

    In this dissertation, the concept of using domain specific language to develop errorree parallel asynchronous load scheduling protocols for distributed systems is studied. The motivation of this study is rooted in addressing the high cost of verifying parallel asynchronous load scheduling protocols. Asynchronous parallel applications are prone to subtle bugs such as deadlocks and race conditions due to the possibility of non-determinism. Due to this non-deterministic behavior, traditional testing methods are less effective at finding software faults. One approach that can eliminate these software bugs is to employ model checking techniques that can verify that non-determinism will not cause software faults in parallel programs. Unfortunately, model checking requires the development of a verification model of a program in a separate verification language which can be an error-prone procedure and may not properly represent the semantics of the original system. The model checking approach can provide true positive result if the semantics of an implementation code and a verification model is represented under a single framework such that the verification model closely represents the implementation and the automation of a verification process is natural. In this dissertation, a domain specific language based verification framework is developed to design parallel load scheduling protocols and automatically verify their behavioral properties through model checking. A specification language, LBDSL, is introduced that facilitates the development of parallel load scheduling protocols. The LBDSL verification framework uses model checking techniques to verify the asynchronous behavior of the protocol. It allows the same protocol specification to be used for verification and the code generation. The support to automatic verification during protocol development reduces the verification cost post development. The applicability of LBDSL verification framework is illustrated by performing case study on three different types of load scheduling protocols. The study shows that the LBDSL based verification approach removes the need of debugging for deadlocks and race bugs which has potential to significantly lower software development costs

When radiographers interpret acquired images of a patient, an acceptance or rejection must be decided. When a retake is required, radiographers need to know how to improve the image quality. Improvements in image quality properties as contrast, sharpness and noise often lead to improved perception, which in turn should enable more information to the observer and also allow computer-assisted detection (CAD) to be more successful

    Sexual harassment in public transport and its coping strategies among bachelor students: A cross sectional study

    Introduction: Sexual harassment in public transport is a common, yet little discussed form of gender-based aggression, predominantly to women. Such abuses have a significant on the mental health of the victims. It also leads them to abandon work and education due to the fear of being harassed on their route. Knowledge regarding the prevalence and coping strategies against such harassment is necessary to formulate effective plans for its mitigation. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study done among 105 bachelor students of Maiya Devi Kanya College of Bharatpur, Chitwan. Self-administered structured questionnaires were used. A Chi-square test was used to determine the significance of the association between variables. Results: Out of 105, 23 students mentioned that they had been sexually harassed in public transport. The non-verbal form was the commonest followed by verbal and physical. Almost half of the respondents mentioned that they would prefer to remain silent (47.6 %) and not react to the situation (54.3%). Self-discipline and effective law were deemed as major ways to prevent such abuses. Conclusion: When girls remain unsafe in public transport, it affects their self-esteem and ultimately hampers their personal productivity and national growth. Stricter laws, unprejudiced societies, and moral values are necessary to prevent as well as help women cope with such harassment

    Elderly Gravida with Bombay Blood Group and Placenta Previa Managed with Autologous Blood Transfusion

    The Bombay blood group is a rare blood type with an incidence of around one in a million. There is no known reported case of an obstetric patient with the Bombay blood group from Nepal. People with this rare blood group can receive blood only from those with the same blood type. We report an elderly gravida with the Bombay blood group who had a pregnancy complicated by diabetes, placenta previa, and transverse lie (back up) following an in vitro fertilization. Placenta previa posed a greater risk of hemorrhage and hence the need for transfusion. The main challenge was arranging blood for transfusion, and as the Bombay blood group was unavailable, she was managed with autologous blood transfusion which was performed for the first time in a pregnant lady in our institute. She underwent Cesarean section for placenta previa with transverse lie, and both mother and baby were sent home in good health

    In the current communication, we report the synthesis, spectroscopic, crystal structure, DFT and photophysical studies of a new nicotinonitrile derivative, viz. 2-methoxy-6-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-4-p-tolyl-nicotinonitrile (2) as a potential blue light emitting material. The compound 2 was synthesized in good yield via a simple route. The acquired spectral and elemental analysis data were in consistent with the chemical structure of 2. The single crystal study further confirms its three dimensional structure, molecular shape, and nature of short contacts. Its DFT calculations reveal that compound 2 possesses a non-planar structure and its theoretical IR spectral data are found to be in accordance with experimental values. In addition, its UV visible and fluorescence spectral measurements prove that the compound exhibits good absorption and fluorescence properties. Also, it shows positive solvatochromic effect when the solvent polarity was varied from non-polar to polar. (c) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    In general, the number of diseases is increasing in the current era. There is also a growing fear among the patients about the nature of the growing number of new diseases and their consequences. Thus the patients are interested in getting treatment from healthcares for minor physical problems. But factors such as lack of space in healthcares and lack of time for doctors make patients uncomfortable. Sometimes doctors recommend that patients come to the healthcare only for emergency treatment. In this paper, a triangular method is proposed which takes into account the needs of the patients, calculates the time management of the doctors and analyzes the facilities available in the healthcares. Designed with the help of medical IoT devices, efficient sensors fitted to patients' bodies monitor their physical condition. Furthermore based on this sensor information the doctor can provide the patient with the necessary instructions from where they were. These sensors send information directly to the healthcare when further emergency treatment is needed. Thus healthcares can make the necessary arrangements to provide the necessary treatments to the patient immediately
